FAR Report Fallout! 4 Trustees resign... Why does the HOA not name them? Because 2 of them delivered a report they weren't meant to?
"And now, at this point in the meeting, I'd like to shift the blame away from me onto someone else." HOA email to members, 6 September 2019:
Dear Member
Over the past two months we have had four Trustees resign for business as well as personal reasons. We are however pleased to advise that Robyn McCall and Renette Kumm have recently been co-opted to help fill the void due to the above resignations. As co-opted Trustees they serve until the next AGM (Jan 2020) and are available for re-election at the time if they so desire. We welcome Robyn McCall and Renette Kumm onto the Board and wish them well in their new roles. Paul Burchell General Manager
When I read this, I was more troubled by what it did not say
than what it did.
Firstly, ”over two
months”? That is conveniently vague to hide any conflict that resulted in resignations.
Secondly, the resigning trustees are not identified. Surely,
having been elected by the members, members should be told who they are? But not many members expect openness and transparency from the HOA anymore.
That's why this blog (not my choice, but someone has to get the other side of the story out) continues to be the place members come to read about what is happening on Thesen Islands. As well as a growing number of onlookers (amused, intrigued, potential buyers?) slowing down to look at the continuing wreck... circus...sh*t show... pick your word...that is Thesen Islands today.
Well, the resigning trustees are Lester Day, chairman of the FAR Committee and
a long standing member of the Board. Orrie Fenn who was also a member of the FAR
Committee. And we know how the remaining trustees feel about their report. They
hate it and blame them for it.
And then 2 outsiders, Paul Zwarts who was doing
good work on the gardens and Russell Belter, who was only elected this January.
One
could say that the voices of reason have gone. I don’t really know, but they did
not seem to be part on the inner circle.
Who is left?
Bill Cooper, Remia Eksteen, Sam Lurie and Mark Williams.
They are undoubtedly the drivers of the increase in bulk. And they get to
choose two more trustees. John Stevens, is the fifth Trustee, who is in charge
of finance, and has not seemed to have gotten himself embroiled in this mess.
What is unfortunate is that, until now, none of the four
have given their reasons for resigning. I
think that if you were elected by members you owe them an explanation as
to why you resigned, especially if the issue is the governance of Thesen
Islands.
Thesen Islands is in a crisis. Now is the time to stand up
and make you voice heard. That means all of us. And we need a few strong members
to stand as trustees at the next AGM.

Sh*t show: Some people might find the term offensive but when you read one of the definitions on Urban Dictionary I think you'll agree that it fits. This is how it is described: A description of an event or situation which is characterized by an ridiculously inordinate amount of frenetic activity. Disorganization and chaos to an absurd degree. Often associated with extreme ineptitude/incompetence and or sudden and unexpected failure.

Bill, Sam and Remia are the drivers of FAR. Sam wants to sell more taps and cushions. Bill wants to flex his business muscles again. Remia...let's just leave it there.
ReplyDeleteThese 3 need to be GONE and we, the Members, need to stand together to rid ourselves of these "self serving" Trustees.
Self respect guys! Your members do not trust you, they do not want you - what are you holding on for? Resign!
ReplyDeleteGot the message guys, do the Members and yourselves a favour, take the highway and move on.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone on this blog have anything to say about the trustees response to the FAR report I only see comments about people does anyone have the ability to play the ball and not the man, try and say something constructive and unemotional, that would be refreshing. If I was to play the man and which I prefer not to do I would ask why (Deleted) Maybe one more question? (Deleted) …we spoke a lot about what people bought into as far as the FAR is concerned it’s seems that brilliant marketing on the part of the Rutherford’s and others managed to conceal what the trustees have now exposed, this is the real story, that Thersen Island is zoned Single Residential not something special as these experts claimed, no point disputing it just go to the municipality and ask them for a zoning certificate of you property and they will give one that says Single Residential, there is nothing special about that is there! Now back to what I bought into, a park for kids, open air gym, tennis courts, but alas none of this belongs to us it all belongs to Barlow’s and I when they want to develop we can’t stop there, cheers for now keep reading I have lots more to say about factual matters that would apppaul readers without having to expose lies and double dealing.

DeleteAny guesses who posted this?? I sure do have a couple (or 3) contenders....
DeleteI posted a reply to this message which I’m sure you are not going to post, because it exposes your follows for who you all are, why don’t you all just pack up now and leave to save face, the eggs are in the air and they are heading in your direction. if you don’t Post I will hand deliver a screenshot of my post to every house on the island and will continue to do until you start posting the correct picture
ReplyDeleteI have posted your reply but I have deleted sections where you make allegations about individuals and companies. This is not a platform to do that. I suggest you write directly to them. Neither do I have the time or inclination to get embroiled in your beef with them. I have responded to your allegation that I was party to concealing information, though.
DeleteUnlike the HOA, I am happy to give space to opposing viewpoints so there is no need to try and bully me into posting your comments. You claim that you prefer to play the ball, not the man, then do the opposite. You call for constructive and unemotional comments yet yours, well, are neither. If you are unhappy that I cut your comments and you do deliver your message “ to every house on the island”, remember to wear a disguise so you can remain anonymous.
To the “brilliant marketing on the part of the Rutherford’s and others (that) managed to conceal what the trustees have now exposed, this is the real story”: I cannot make the connection as to why the zoning would need to be concealed. But the recent HOA gobbledygook about zoning and approvals is just so much smoke being blown by the trustees to obscure the fiasco regarding the increase in bulk they are pushing. And that 80%-90% of members at the AGM in January voted against. And their FAR Committee is also against.
It gave me a chuckle when I read that the trustees are now exposing what others, including me, conceal. Their signature game is the opposite. This switch is like playing tennis with the other hand. OK for 1 or 2 shots but then it’s back to your favourite hand. As have the trustees.
Also my understanding of the Parkland is that although it is owned by a trust, the members have full control over it. By not owning it, the members do not assume any liability for any (unlikely) pollution issues, nor the expensive annual monitoring. So it is a win-win for members. It is like that old joke: “What is better than owning a boat? Having a friend who owns one!” The Parkland is a bonus for members that is the result of efforts of a shareholder in the TIDC who wanted less houses, not more.
Finally, you ask whether anyone on this blog has anything to say about the trustee’s response to the FAR Report. I have something to say. It will be on the blog in a few weeks. You won’t like it. But let me know what you think, if you want.
Keeping up with the nonsense that comes out of the HOA these days is a lot of work and I have a business to run. And now there is the HOA misrepresentation of what transpired at the recent CSOS Arbitration Hearing with Craig Smith. Contrary to the HOA claim that Smith had his arse handed to him due to skilful manoeuvring by the trustees and their legal team, the HOA handed in a Resolution dated the Friday before Monday’s hearing revoking their resolution to increase bulk. Which is exactly what Craig Smith had been asking for since November 2018. And trustees complain and threaten members about wasting their time and HOA money? Look out for this summary on the blog.
Anonymous -I DARE you to come and deliver your propoganda message to my home...

Come to my home. PLEASE.
ReplyDeletePlease remember to bring tissues for that bloodied nose....
Can you believe - and TIHOA mum again!! the latest co- opted trustee removed - poof, gone - maybe too many straight questions were asked - it is a person who thinks for herself and demands not just answers but paperwork as well. Such a shame!! Trustees trying to implement a constitution not approved yet.
